Why We LOVE Brass Jewellery - Advice, Care, and Style Tips
At Silver Bubble we’re all about the power of a great piece of jewellery - we believe it should lift you up, and make you walk taller. It should speak a little to your personality, but also your confidence and power. Even if you don’t feel it, if you dress like you mean ‘business’, research shows that you’re likely to have a more impactful day.
Most of our collection is made from silver, but we’ve started introducing different metals which has been super exciting! Our most recent addition is Brass, which is a metal that speaks of ancient times - it’s ceremonial, mathematical and celebrated for many different uses. It’s natural therefore, that it should be worn with a certain swagger, thanks to its pedigree as an alloy and reputation for quality and reliability.
In this article we aim to answer some of those common questions we know customers have about brass jewellery.
Is Brass a good metal for jewellery?
Brass is a great material for jewellery, thanks to its golden hue without the hefty price tag. It’s a fabulous alloy which has natural antimicrobial properties, and has been popular since the 18th century, and a material associated with precision tools and intricate items. In recent years it has become more popular in jewellery, and we’re here for it! Some believe it was used by the Egyptians, but in fact it was the Romans who rapidly developed the use of this versatile metal.
Brass requires different smithing techniques due to the high melting point, which can make it more temperamental. A significant amount of skill is required to create unusual brass jewellery, which makes each piece even more special.

Will Brass Jewellery Tarnish?
Brass is a natural alloy, and our jewellery is completely safe to wear. When left untreated, brass can be prone to oxidation and can react to the skin's natural oils; we use gold-plate in places on our brass jewellery to help prevent it from tarnishing, and enhance the natural golden colour.
We recommend cleaning your brass jewellery after wear using a soft dry cloth to extend its natural sheen, and storing in a dry, air-tight box to reduce oxidation. With frequent wear, or a little polish from time to time, it will remain as bright as they day you made it yours!
How to style brass jewellery
Whether you are someone who stacks jewellery for drama, or uses one or two iconic pieces that stand out, what we wear speaks volumes about our mood and personality. When styling brass jewellery, we recommend going bold! We’ve come up with 3 tips to help you get the most use out of your new piece, and make sure you look dazzling, every time!
-
Brass looks amazing layered with your favourite pieces to create an eclectic, unusual look. Mixing metals is more popular than ever, and we often play with the different effects that silver, gold, copper and brass can have together. Think Cleopatra, Cynthia Erivo, Lewis Hamilton, or even Kate Middleton - they are all famous for their decisive jewellery styling.
-
Wear your brass jewellery with contrasting colours. A brass pendant looks INCREDIBLE against a simple black top, or with bold colours such as blue or green. It makes a real statement when you wear a plain colour, with a bold pendant. Pair with some equally dashing earrings, or a simple pair of studs if you want you neckline to take all the glory!
-
Pair your metals carefully. Choose a brass bracelet, brass or gold earrings, and brass necklace for a perfectly balanced look that will suit the office, bar, or high street. Our collection includes pairings designed to be worn together, such as our Rings of Fire Necklace and Earrings. Many of our pieces include semi-precious stones such as Turquoise, which offer contrast and add depth to the style of the piece if you want to add a bit of colour.

We’ve been dealing in Silver Jewellery online for nearly 30 years, and it never ceases to amaze us what a difference our jewellery can make to our customers’ lives. When we introduced our new brass collection we were amazed at the reaction!
Our brass jewellery collection is designed with this kind of statement in mind. What we like to call the ‘I have arrived!’ effect.
So, which piece will you choose to help you command the room…?
